Every writer leaves parts of themselves in their work, but The Emerald Guardians goes beyond that. Talon—the fierce, determined, and sometimes reckless protagonist—was never just a character to me.

He was based on my partner, Talon.

His strength, unwavering determination, ability to carry burdens without always letting people see their weight, and fierce love, even when the world makes it hard—Talon in the book embodies everything that makes my real-life Talon incredible. He is the anchor in the chaos and stands strong when everything else is crumbling.

Writing him wasn’t creating a character—it was capturing something real. Something that means the world to me.

Jax – The Fear of Losing What Matters

Jax wasn’t just a childhood friend to Lira. He wasn’t just a mystery, a flicker of memory that comes and goes like a half-remembered dream. Jax was my nephew.

Or at least, he was inspired by him.

That same mischief, the effortless charm, the ability to make people laugh even when things are falling apart around them—that’s Jax. But like my nephew, Jax isn’t just lighthearted chaos.
